Studio A at Crate Studio — a white 7-metre cyclorama with a camera stand and two lights under a grey acoustic ceiling

Photographic studio — Reservoir, Melbourne

A studio built around seven metres of cyclorama.

The studio

A converted warehouse, kept quiet on purpose.

Crate is a daylight-quiet, air-conditioned photographic and video studio in Reservoir, ten kilometres north of Melbourne's CBD. Gallery-white walls, polished concrete floors and an acoustic-panelled ceiling under exposed steel — a building that stays out of the frame.

The main studio turns around a seven-metre painted cyclorama, with a digi station, poly boards and a dedicated makeup station in the room. A 3.7-metre roller door takes vehicles and full sets straight onto the floor.

Selected spaces

Three rooms, one building, no neighbours to keep happy.

Studio A cyclorama from the side with a camera stand, monolight and client monitor

Studio A

12.7 × 12.7 m · 7 × 7 m cyclorama

The main stage. A painted seven-metre cyclorama under a ceiling that pitches from four to five and a half metres, with a Foba camera stand, digi station and makeup station in the room. Big enough for cars; calm enough for a single portrait.

Studio B at Crate Studio — a black curtain backdrop with a digi station and rolling rack

Studio B

6 × 4 m

The second room. A tighter box with a Cambo camera stand, digi station and rolling rack in the room. Fast to light; built for lookbooks, product and overflow from the main floor.

Client breakout at Crate Studio — tan leather lounges, wood heater and plants against white brick

Client Breakout

9 × 6 m · full kitchen

Tan leather, an oak table that seats a production, plants and a wood heater against white brick. Base camp for agencies and clients — and a warm stills location in its own right.

Private access

Crate works by invitation.

We keep the calendar in the hands of the photographers, producers and agencies we work with. Clients book through a private portal — rates, equipment and availability included — and every request is confirmed personally.

If Crate sounds like your kind of room, introduce yourself. We'll take it from there.
